Ras Abu Funtas
Geographic Feature: Industrial Area
Description: The Arabic word ‘ras’ refers to a “cape or headland, an area of land extending into the sea and surrounded by the sea”. Another constituent of the name is the Arabic word ‘abu’ which means “father” in English. Here in Qatar, the word is used to refer to an “area with specific qualities or features”. The last constituent is ‘Funtas’; referring to a “water tank”. Here, the so called region derives its geographic name from a large water tanker situated on the cape. Hence, was named Ras Abu Funtas.
