Mekainis Al Shamali

Geographic Feature: Farm

Description:  The Arabic word ‘Mekainis’ is the diminutive term of the word ‘Maknas’ which refers to a “habitat chosen by wild animals to resort to when the weather becomes unbearably hot”.  The farm, a former rawda was once considered a resort for these animals.  The other constituent of the name is the word ‘Shamali’; meaning “northern” in English.  To distinguish between this region and another situated southwards, this particular part of the region was referred to as Mekainis Al Shamali.
