Description: The Arabic word 'umm' means "mother" in English. Here the term is used to refer to an area with "particular features or qualities". The other constituent of the name is the word 'far'; a term meaning "rat". The geographic name is derived from the fact that the island was infested by a large number of rats. Hence, was termed Umm Al Far.
